2015 Ford Explorer
A new appearance package for Explorer XLT brings a stylish look to a utility that features rugged capability, surprising efficiency and high-tech features that enhance the driving experience. The optional new appearance package delivers sport-inspired design to Explorer’s highly successful and very capable XLT series, which includes 20-inch machined aluminum wheels with painted pockets; Black body-side cladding and roof-rack rails; and Magnetic Metallic painted grille, mirror caps and liftgate appliqué.
The performance-oriented features of the 2015 Explorer include an electric power-assisted steering system that gives great responsiveness to drivers in on-road and off-road situations, and large brakes for shorter stopping distances and better performance when towing.
Also new, 18-inch painted aluminum wheels are now standard on base model Explorer. The Explorer’s standard engine is a 3.5-liter V-6 delivering 290 horsepower. It is mated to Ford’s six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission. Ford Explorer V-6 models are available with an intelligent 4WD system that adds terrain management. A driver need only turn the console-mounted knob to the proper setting for snow, sand, mud or normal mode. In addition, the system includes hill descent mode. The Explorer also offers the advanced 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, delivering the power of a normally aspirated V-6 without compromise to its four-cylinder fuel economy. This direct-injected, turbocharged and intercooled engine delivers an estimated 237 horsepower.
Base model estimated miles per gallon: 17/24. Estimated starting price: $30,600.
