If you’re looking for a luxury three-row SUV, you have two choices. You can get something that does not offer the space and access for third row passengers. Or, you get something that does.

The 2022 Infiniti QX60 falls into the latter category. It does so with contemporary styling that still shows some of the brand’s own cues. It also does so by offering more space overall than a lot of its competitors.

We were at a media drive event recently at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin to check out this vehicle among several others. There, we found something truly special about the QX60 that would make this a stand out choice in its class.

The exterior exudes a level of premium that is uncomplicated. This is something we have been waiting fir from Infiniti. The front end has the brand’s signature grille shape and texture, with a businesslike set of slim headlamps finishing the look. The QX60’s roofline offers a more upright shape that seems to be missing from other luxury mid-size three-row SUVs. There is a nice glasshouse/floating roofline element to the C-pillar, finishing up with a nicely appointed rear liftgate area.

Our example is the Autograph trim level, which features a black contrasting roof against the beautiful extra cost Moonbow Blue color.

Infiniti has been elevating their interiors, as well. Our Saddle Brown quilted leather upholstery complimented the exterior paint very nicely. You not only find this quilted leather on the seats, but also on other surfaces throughout the interior. Even the dashboard has the same quilted leather trim.

We also found that the QX60 offered contemporary technology, such as the highly customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.8-inch head-up display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display above the center stack. The well-placed controls are excellent to the touch, including the automatic transmission shifter. The climate control system can be adjusting using haptic touch buttons and sliders.

Six passengers will find luxurious comfort inside the cabin. The second-row captain’s chairs include a removable center console to create more pass-through space. That console is highly useful for second-row occupants. Front seats not only get a multitude of adjustments. They also get a messaging function in the Autograph trim.

Cargo space can be expanded from 14.5 cubic feet behind the third row seats to 75.4 cubic feet with both the third and second row seats folded down.

Only one engine is available on the QX60: A 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 connected to an all-new nine-speed automatic transmission. Our tester had the all-wheel drive system, which is available on all trim levels. Power is very good for this 4,655-pound mid-size SUV. The EPA estimated that the QX60 would get 20 MPG in the city and 25 MPH highway. The QX60 is also capable of towing up to 6,000 pounds.

In our brief drive in the new QX60, we found that this mid-size SUV had a very nice driving experience. The ride was just right, while we found the handling well controlled. The steering system offered a tight turning radius with great control and on-center feel. You can weigh down the steering by selecting the QX60 into Sport mode. The pedal feel for the brakes felt just right. It offered a lot of solid stopping power all around.

It is worth noting that the 2022 Infiniti QX60 is equipped with the advanced ProPILOT Assist with NaviLink. This system is layered on top of the Infiniti’s standard driver assistance and safety features by adding Steering Assist, Speed Limit Assist, Speed Adjust by Route, and Intelligent Cruise Control with Stop and Hold.

Pricing for the 2022 Infiniti QX60 starts at $46,850. There are four trim levels to choose from. Our Autograph AWD tester came with a sticker price of $64,970.

The QX60 is up against some of the most desirable mid-size SUVs available today, These competitors include the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Lexus RX L, Genesis GV80, Cadillac XT6, Lincoln Aviator, Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover Sport.

Our brief taste of the 2022 Infiniti QX60 has left us wanting for more. Maybe we’ll get one in for a deeper experience for you. In the meantime, they should be arriving at dealerships soon. Do you have on order? We would suggest looking into it.
